The BEAR -- Beach Extreme Adventure Race
2000 took place at Hanna Park in Atlantic Beach (Jacksonville) Florida on Saturday,
8/12/00. It was a strenuous race on a hot, humid day with finish times between 4 hours 33
minutes, and 7 hours 50 minutes. The adventure racers completed a series of challenges
that included beach runs, orienteering on trails and through wooded jungle, open water
kayaking on the ocean through the surf and on a lake, trail runs, off-road biking on
narrow trails, and numerous mystery events testing teamwork, strength, and mental agility.
Every starting team completed the full course, including 11 times over The WALLs (four
times with bikes).
