Timucuan Challenge UPDATES
Be sure to check this page frequently in case of any
changes during the last weeks before the event. |

|
 | The Timucuan Challenge Paddle Race is being postponed
temporarily. It will not take place on 10/1/06, as originally planned.
We apologize for any inconvenience. We are currently looking into a
new date with favorable tides and currents. Please watch our web site
for future details. Of course, any entry fees already paid will be
refunded -- or given to Climb for Cancer Foundation, at the choice of
the entrant. If you have any questions, please contact the race
director at (904) 285-1552 during normal office hours. |
 | In place of the competition on 10/1/06, there will be a friendly,
recreational paddle and all are invited. Please arrive before 9:00am
to meet other paddlers and to take part. |
 | The 2006 Timucuan Challenge Paddle Race will be ... rescheduled. All racers will start at 9:00am from the lagoon side
of Huguenot Park in Jacksonville, just north of the St Johns River. We
will be meeting at and starting from Shelter #3, on the Ft George
Inlet (lagoon) side of the Park, not far from the Park Store and
restrooms. |
 | Huguenot Memorial Park opens at 8:00am. It is located at
10980 Heckscher Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32226, at the eastern end of
Heckscher Drive before crossing the Ft George River to Little Talbot
Island. Click here for directions and
map. Plan to enter the Park just after 8:00, as it is popular and
could have a waiting line when it opens. Get a map of the Park at the
entry gate and drive to Shelter #3, on the Ft George Inlet side of the
Park, not far from the Park Store and restrooms. |
 | Comfort Inn - Mayport is our host hotel. It is located on the
south side of the St Johns River, so those staying there will need to
plan to get on the Ferry early enough to enter Huguenot Park and be
set up for the Start at 9:00am. Click here
for details about directions to the hotel and discounts. |
 | Maps/Charts of the race course are available online - click
here - and you may download and print them for use in the races.
You may also buy topo maps of the area and use them during the race --
info about such purchases is available at the same page online. |
 | Safety is important to us -- all racers will be required to
bring and wear Coast Guard-approved lifejackets. Carrying a first aid
kit and sufficient
water or sports drink is also necessary. We also strongly advise
having a fully-charged cell phone, kayak bilge pump and a fully waterproof map/document case for
each boat, as well as sunglasses, hat, cockpit cover/skirt, and extra
paddle for each racer. |
 | Kayak rentals are available -- click
here to see some of the kayak outfitters that we know and can
recommend. |

| Cancellation
Policy: Much
of the cost of providing a race is spent long before you arrive at the
race site. In fact, most of our costs need to be paid in advance and are
not recoverable. Typically, we go forward with a race "rain or
shine." If severe weather conditions or other issues out of our
control (such as hurricane or the closing of the race site by order of the
local government), we will postpone and reschedule our race. The race
organizers are not responsible for such changes in schedule, and will
credit any paid entries toward the rescheduled race date. If a written
cancellation of registration is initiated by the participant more than 21
days in advance of the event date, full credit will be available. If
participant's cancellation notice is sent 21 days or less (before the
race), a 75% credit will be applied; 10 days or less, a 50% credit; less
than 96 hours notice, or no notice ("no shows") will receive no
credit. Any such credit is good for 180 days from the date of the
scheduled event toward entry/registration in another similar Performance
Multisports event. Refunds are not available.
