Team Tiara is the charity running leg of Girls on the Run.
We are a team of athletes who pursue individual goals, such as running a
marathon, to raise money for local GOTR chapters and our important after
school running programs for young girls.
There are a lot of good reasons to do a marathon, but consider a different
type of marathon experience -- one in which you're wearing a tiara and
perhaps a bright pink running skirt ... This isn't your run-of-the mill
experience, but one that's fun and for an important cause: Girls On The
Run.

|
There are three "crown jewels" that make up Team Tiara:
|
|
Health:
we run in celebration of health! We are motivated to make a
difference in the future of girls by introducing healthy habits and an
active lifestyle through running. Some of us want to go fast, some
of us want to go far, but we all feel better when we run!
Girl Power: we run because it is fun! Our Team
members run in “sporty” tiaras – which are an external symbol of the
internal beauty we all possess. The tiaras remind us of the
whimsical spirit that exists within girls and cap off our image of being
strong, healthy women who dare to make a difference.
Inspiration: we run to show what is possible. The
experience of a Team Tiara athlete mirrors the experience of a girl in the
GOTR program - both learn lessons about goal setting and achievement,
perseverance, motivation, overcoming obstacles and inspiration. These
athletes step across the finish line and experience a moment when their
sense of what is possible becomes limitless!

Team
Tiara Director, Betsy Armstrong, recalls her first experience with tiaras
at the Boston Marathon in 2005, "This race was different. I was
wearing a tiara; a small, silly little thing, right? Not quite. Over the
entire 26.2 miles, I never felt alone. I never went more than a few steps
before someone from the crowd yelled, "Hey princess" or
"You go, diva!" Children jumped up and down for us.
Little girls and women gasped delightedly when they saw us. My
cheeks hurt from smiling and my arm was sore from all the high-fiving
hands offered my way..."

| Just
as Team Tiara members are changed by their experience, GOTR uses running
to transform the way girls see themselves and their opportunities.
Our ultimate goal is to raise enough money to reach every girl, and to
educate and prepare her for a lifetime of self respect and healthy living.
We hope you join us in our mission! |
Do something fabulous for yourself and at the same
time, support the important goals of Girls on the Run!
